Overview
Plumb Signs was selected through a competitive bid process to complete the exterior signage program for the newly expanded Seattle Convention Center. This large-scale, multi-elevation project required extensive crane operations, traffic control, and coordination with city agencies to safely install high-elevation signage in the heart of downtown Seattle.
The scope included over 60 fabricated and installed signage elements, ranging from massive illuminated building letters to custom aluminum door and access panels. Each installation required meticulous planning to address height restrictions, limited access, and public safety considerations along Pike Street and surrounding corridors.
Our team managed the project from design and engineering through installation and restoration, ensuring seamless execution in a complex urban environment.
Removal & Preparation
Before new signage could be installed, Plumb Signs performed a complex removal phase requiring high-reach equipment, coordinated street closures, and precision dismantling of legacy systems. Once removed, each façade was pressure-washed and prepped to provide a clean, durable surface for the new illuminated branding.
Installation & Crane Operations
Once the façades were prepped, Plumb Signs began the installation of the new illuminated lettersets and exterior branding components. Each high-elevation installation required precise crane coordination, traffic management, and field alignment to ensure flawless presentation and safety in downtown Seattle.
Special Installation: East Elevation Wall Sign
One of the most technically demanding portions of the Seattle Convention Center exterior program was the east elevation wall sign — a precision-engineered illuminated system requiring high-elevation rigging, limited access coordination, and multi-crew crane operation. From rigging setup to final illumination, this installation showcased Plumb Signs’ expertise in complex, high-access architectural signage.
Results
The completed Seattle Convention Center exterior signage stands as a bold architectural statement — combining engineering excellence and brand impact. From large illuminated logos visible across downtown to refined directional and access signage, the program reinforces the Convention Center’s status as a world-class venue.
