When Edgeworks Climbing + Fitness opened its new gym in Bellevue, Washington, the signage had to do what the rest of the building was doing — carry the brand with the same quiet confidence as the architecture. Plumb Signs partnered with MG2 Design to design, fabricate, and install a coordinated signage package for the location: exterior LED-illuminated channel letters for the building identification and a precision-cut, high-gloss acrylic feature wall for the reception space inside.

A climbing gym is a brand-loud, daylight-flooded, ceiling-tall environment. The interior brand wall has to sit cleanly against a feature surface that is itself architectural; the exterior letters have to read as crisply at night against the curtain wall as they do in the gray-light afternoons that fill the Bellevue valley most of the year. Both pieces share one design language so the customer walking in the door sees the same brand they read on the building approaching it.

The whole package was produced under one roof at Plumb Signs’ Tacoma shop — one CAD set carried both pieces through engineering, fabrication, permitting, and install, and the same crew that built the letters set them at the building. The project was recognized by the Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce as a Project of the Week for the broader build, and the signage is part of what made the interior and exterior read as one finished brand environment.

Channel Letters That Read Clean Day and Night

The exterior identification is built as a set of aluminum channel letters illuminated by a UL-rated, remote-mounted LED system. The remote power supply keeps the letter cans clean of bulky transformers, the wall stays uninterrupted by raceways, and the nighttime read holds true Edgeworks brand color across the frontage. Mounting hardware is sized to the exterior wall substrate, sealed against Pacific Northwest weather, and serviceable from the outside.

For a brand-driven gym in a competitive Eastside market, the building identification is the recruiting tool. A driver coming up the street has to recognize the brand from a block away and feel like the building lives up to the website. Plumb Signs and MG2 Design coordinated letter sizing, color, and placement so the exterior reads with the architecture instead of fighting it.

Designed, Built & Installed In-House

Drawings, fabrication, finishing, permits, and install all produced under one roof at Plumb Signs’ Tacoma shop. One CAD set, one team, one chain of custody to the building.

Aluminum channel cans with translucent acrylic faces handle the exterior; routed acrylic letters with high-gloss face finish handle the reception wall. The exterior LED system carries a long-warranty rating for outdoor service in the Pacific Northwest, and the interior acrylic is finished to the same gloss standard as the architectural feature it sits against.

Design & Engineering

The Edgeworks Bellevue signage ran on one design conversation between Plumb Signs and MG2 Design. MG2 owned the architectural and interior design; Plumb Signs handled the sign-craft side of the same drawings — letter geometry, mounting hardware, LED system, finish coordination, and code compliance with the City of Bellevue.

  • · Shop drawings for the exterior and interior pieces
  • · Wall-substrate engineering & mount sizing
  • · UL-rated, remote-mount LED system spec

Why This Approach Works for Recreation & Fitness Brands

A modern climbing or fitness brand is bought on identity. The customer signs up online, walks the parking lot the first time looking for the building, and decides in the first five seconds at the door whether the room feels like the brand they researched. Two coordinated sign pieces — one on the building, one at the front desk — carry that decision. The exterior pulls them off the street; the interior confirms they’re in the right place.

For Edgeworks, the brand is part of the climbing experience itself — tall ceilings, clean walls, real craft. Channel letters illuminated cleanly outside and a precision-cut, high-gloss acrylic wall inside meet that bar. Both pieces are fabricated to last in a high-traffic, climate-controlled environment, and both are serviceable in place if anything ever needs attention years down the line.

Frequently Asked Questions

What did the Edgeworks Climbing + Fitness Bellevue, WA signage program include?
The program delivered two coordinated sign pieces for the Edgeworks Climbing + Fitness location in Bellevue, Washington — a set of exterior LED-illuminated channel letters for the building identification, and a precision-cut, high-gloss acrylic feature wall for the reception space inside. Both pieces share one design language and were produced under one roof at Plumb Signs’ Tacoma shop, in collaboration with MG2 Design.
What are remote-mounted LED channel letters and why use them?
A channel letter is a custom-fabricated three-dimensional letter — typically an aluminum can with a translucent acrylic face — lit internally with LED modules. A remote-mounted system moves the power supplies off the back of the letters and into a separate enclosure inside the building, which keeps the wall presentation clean (no bulky raceway box across the architecture), simplifies servicing, and lets the letters sit flush against the building surface for a sharper read.
What is a precision-cut acrylic feature wall?
It is an interior brand wall built from individually routed acrylic letters with a high-gloss face finish, mounted directly to an architectural feature surface — in this case the reception wall at the Edgeworks Bellevue gym. The letters are CNC-cut for crisp edges, finished to the same gloss standard as the architecture they sit against, and stood off the wall with hardware sized to the substrate so the letters read three-dimensionally instead of flat.
Does Plumb Signs install signage for climbing gyms and fitness brands in Bellevue, WA?
Yes. Plumb Signs is based in Tacoma, about forty minutes south of Bellevue, and designs, fabricates, and installs full signage packages for climbing gyms, fitness studios, recreation operators, and architect / contractor partners across Bellevue, Seattle, Redmond, Kirkland, Issaquah, Renton, Tacoma, Olympia, and the wider Puget Sound region — including exterior building identification, interior brand walls, ADA-tactile signage, donor and member recognition, regulatory and access signage, and wayfinding inside the facility.
How long does a coordinated exterior + interior signage program take to design, fabricate, and install?
A coordinated two-piece program of this scope typically runs six to twelve weeks from approved artwork and site survey to final installation, depending on permit timing with the local jurisdiction. The schedule covers shop drawings for both pieces, structural permit submission for the exterior letters, aluminum channel-letter fabrication, acrylic routing and finishing for the interior wall, LED module assembly and bench-testing, and the on-site install by the Plumb Signs crew.
Are the LED channel letters UL-listed?
Yes. The LED modules, power supplies, and electrical assemblies in the Edgeworks Bellevue program are UL-rated and listed for outdoor commercial signage use. Plumb Signs fabricates as a UL-listed shop, which means every illuminated sign that leaves our Tacoma facility carries a UL label and meets the code requirements of the City of Bellevue and Washington State.
How does the program hold up in Pacific Northwest weather and high-traffic gym use?
The exterior is built for the climate the building lives in — aluminum channel cans that will not rust, sealed LED modules with the wiring and drivers protected on the building side, and weather-sealed mounting hardware sized to the wall substrate. The interior acrylic feature wall lives in a climate-controlled, high-traffic environment; the high-gloss face finish is built to hold its read against years of gym lighting and member volume, and the standoff mounting keeps the letters serviceable in place if anything ever needs attention.
What other signage does Plumb Signs build for recreation and fitness facilities?
Exterior LED channel letters, monument and pylon signs at the parking lot, blade signs at the door, interior brand and feature walls, donor and member recognition walls, ADA-tactile interior signs, wayfinding, regulatory and access signage, locker and amenity identification, and full coordinated brand-rollout programs for multi-site recreation operators. We work with climbing gyms, fitness studios, recreation centers, and architect / contractor partners across Washington and the wider Pacific Northwest.
