Custom Healthcare & Wayfinding Signage | Mason Health Shelton WA
Plumb Signs partnered with Mason Health on a full exterior signage program for the Mason General Hospital & Mason Clinic campus at 901 Mt View Drive in Shelton. The program covered the patient journey end-to-end: a main-entrance illuminated monument that anchors the campus from the road, raceway-mounted channel letters on the clinic facade, a secondary monument for the walk-in clinic and lab, and a coordinated set of directional signs to move staff, patients, and visitors through the site.
The headline piece — the multi-line aluminum monument at the main entrance — carries the full hospital lockup: Mason Health · Mason General Hospital · Mason Clinic · Main Entrance. It is built around a push-through letter system: routed faces, translucent acrylic letterforms, and a sign-grade LED bank that turns each line of copy into clean, even-lit text after dark. The lockup reads correctly from the entrance lane at speed in daylight and stays readable at the same legibility at night — exactly what a hospital arrival needs.
Healthcare signage earns a higher standard than retail or office: arriving patients are stressed, drivers are looking for the entrance late, after-hours visitors are navigating in the rain, and every piece in the sign family has to behave the same way the next time it shows up across the campus. Every component in this program — monuments, building letters, wayfinding — was designed, fabricated, and installed by the same team in our Tacoma shop, ninety minutes south of Shelton, with marine-grade aluminum and Class 2 low-voltage LED systems built to hold up to the wet Pacific Northwest winter.

Four Views · One Campus Program
The Mason Health program reads as one connected sign family — from the design-table site plan, to the entrance monument, to the building lockup, to the walk-in clinic monument. Each piece was drafted, fabricated, finished, and installed by the same team. Tap any view to enlarge.
The Main-Entrance Monument
A four-line aluminum monument cabinet built around a push-through letter system: routed faces, translucent acrylic letterforms set proud of the face, and a sign-grade white LED bank behind. The hospital and clinic lockups stay crisp in daylight — and turn into clean, even-lit text after dark without any of the “hot spot” or face-bleed problems common in older face-lit cabinets.
The base is a clad aluminum pedestal anchored to a concrete footing, sized to the entry lane and dimensioned so the lockup reads cleanly at the approach speed and angle of the campus driveway. Power is run through a Class 2 driver bay with rear service access — a failed module never means pulling the sign off the footing.
- · Push-through acrylic letters
- · Sign-grade white LED
- · Marine-grade aluminum cabinet
- · Automotive-grade finish
- · Concrete-footed pedestal
- · UL-listed assembly
Fabrication & Sign Family
Four coordinated sign types — built to a single brand and visual standard so the campus reads as one operation from the road to the front desk.
Illuminated Monument Signs
Aluminum cabinet, routed face, push-through acrylic letters, white-LED back-illumination. Even-lit copy after dark with sharp daytime read.
Raceway Channel Letters
Building-mounted "Mason Clinic" lockup. Day/night vinyl faces on aluminum returns, raceway-housed LED modules & driver, single penetration set per building code.
Halo Logo Elements
Dimensional logo pieces with concealed LED halo for premium, low-glare brand identification — used as accent components inside the larger sign family.
Directional Wayfinding
Painted aluminum directional panels with vinyl overlays — short, clear messaging and Mason Health-consistent typography to move drivers, patients, and visitors to the right entrance.
Every illuminated assembly is UL-listed, built on a Class 2 low-voltage LED platform, and finished with automotive-grade paint for the wet PNW operating environment. Each cabinet is engineered for rear service access so future LED-module or driver swaps happen without pulling the sign down.

Design & Engineering
Before anything was cut, our design team produced a full site plan and engineering set: every sign placement mapped to the campus, every cabinet dimensioned, every LED layout balanced for even illumination across the face, and every footing engineered for the soil and wind loading on the Shelton site.
- · Full fabrication drawings & placement mapping
- · Electrical & structural schematics for the LED bank
- · Sight-line analysis from the approach lanes
- · Permitting & code compliance with Mason County
- · Coordination with the hospital’s facilities team
A single CAD set carried the program through fabrication, permitting, and install — same drawings, same dimensions, same hardware schedule, start to finish.
Why This Approach Works for a Hospital Campus
Healthcare facilities operate under a set of pressures retail doesn’t: 24/7 traffic, emergency arrivals, patients searching for a specific clinic inside a multi-building campus, and signage that has to be readable in low light and bad weather. The right sign program does three jobs at once — it identifies the campus from the road, separates services (hospital vs clinic vs walk-in vs lab) at the point of arrival, and walks visitors through the property without making them stop to read.
Push-through illuminated monuments do this better than face-lit cabinets in the wet PNW environment — sealed letter cells stay clean, condensation never makes the face look patchy, and even illumination keeps the messaging legible at distance. Pairing one monument standard with a coordinated channel-letter, halo-logo, and wayfinding family means every patient, contractor, and EMT crew sees the same brand and the same level of finish whether they are arriving at the main entrance or driving up to the walk-in clinic next door.
