Project Overview:

We have been working with NWMS for over 5 years on 10+ locations so when they came to us with a request for signage on their new location in Marysville we were very excited. It’s always a pleasure working with this group and everything runs smoothly given our familiarity with one another’s processes and expectations. Not to mention they’re a fun bunch to work with so our crews always have a great time together!

For the Marysville location, the NWMS team was looking to get some pretty big signage up with a new Pylon Sign at the entrance and some channel letters on the exterior of the building. This is a typical expansion package for new NWMS locations so we were able to pull inspiration and specs from our past projects to hit the ground running with this one. That level of familiarity was crucial with this project as we faced the challenge of a particularly tight turnaround time for the design, fabrication and install.

Challenges:

The primary challenge with this project related to the timeline. Even though we were very familiar with the sign package, a turnaround time of less than a month from start to finish is always a challenge. Not only because of the scale of the project but also because of some of the variables that affect the timeline that are out of our hands like securing all of the required permits. That being said, we were of course up to the challenge.

The project was brought to us at the start of September with a hopeful completion date of prior to October 1st. After discussing the scope of the project and putting together a plan of attack, we were ready to dive in and get all of the necessary wheels in motion. Any time you have a quick turnaround project, there are a lot of things that have to go right. Here are a few items that we feel were our keys to success.

Keys to Success:

Familiarity:

As stated earlier, we have been working with NWMS for over 5 years on a number of expansion locations across Washington. It’s been an absolute pleasure to be a part of their continued growth in the region. Having an established relationship really allows for both teams to feel confident in overcoming challenges such as tight turnaround times. We’re happy we were able to put their mind at ease and assure them that we could handle the timeline goals that they had put in place.

Trust:

NWMS had to put a lot of trust in us to hit this timeline as they were fully committed to it on their end. It was corresponding with the opening of their new location so any setbacks on our end would be a big problem. After all, you don’t want to be opening a new location without your signage in place.

One key piece of being able to limit the impact of some of those variables that weren’t completely in our control, was that NWMS provided us with a permit waiver. This allowed us to get started on some of the work internally prior to the permits being fully approved so that we could make sure we had enough time to fabricate all of the signs and meet the install timeline. This showcased their trust in our knowledge of the code and permit requirements to give us the green light to get started before the permits had been finalized. That being said, permit waivers are not an ideal path to project completion given the risk involved, but going back to our familiarity with the sign package we felt confident in our approach.

Teamwork:

At the end of the day, anytime you have to expedite any piece of the signage process, it’s going to require a great deal of teamwork. Not only from an internal perspective but also with the customer. NWMS was fully committed to providing our team with everything we needed to get the job done and since we had that level of commitment we were able to stay focused and on schedule from start to finish.

Internally, we had to bring in a number of different people and make sure everyone was on the same page from the beginning. Any setbacks from our end from any lack of communication would have really limited our ability to hit our install goal of end of September. Our group was able to pull from a lot of experience and come together to achieve the goals set forth.

Final Result:

Even though the turnaround time was a little intimidating the fact of the matter was this wasn’t our first rodeo with a quick turnaround project and our team stepped up and was able to knock it out of the park. We’re very proud of our group here, from design and fabricators to installers and project managers. It was all hands on deck and we got the job done without any hiccups and the result was another happy customer.
